These Terms of Service (“Terms”) apply to your use of kumtuks.ca (the “Site”), operated by Kumtuks, an educational project supported by the Global Civic Policy Society in British Columbia, Canada (“Kumtuks”, “we”, “us”). By using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
Educational content
Kumtuks publishes videos, essays and related material about the history, institutions and culture of British Columbia, Canada and the wider Anglosphere. The content is provided for general educational and informational purposes. It reflects research and perspectives at the time of publication, and it is not legal, financial or other professional advice. We work to be accurate, but we do not guarantee that all content is complete, current or free of errors.
Using our content
Unless stated otherwise, the content on the Site — including text, videos, images, graphics and the Kumtuks name and logo — belongs to Kumtuks or its licensors and is protected by copyright and other laws.
- You may view the content for personal, non-commercial use; share links to pages and videos; and show our videos and essays in classrooms and other non-commercial educational settings, with credit to Kumtuks.
- You may not copy, republish, sell, alter or redistribute our content, or use it commercially, without our written permission.

What you send us
When you send us messages, story ideas or classroom experiences, you confirm that the content is yours to share and does not infringe anyone’s rights. You allow us to use it to respond to you and, if you send it for that purpose, to quote or publish it on the Site or in our communications, with or without your name as we agree with you. Please do not send confidential information through the Site.
Acceptable use
Please do not misuse the Site. In particular, do not try to gain unauthorized access to it, interfere with its operation, send spam or harmful code through its forms, or use automated tools to copy its content in bulk.
Donations and memberships
Donations are made through a donation form provided by CanadaHelps, which processes the payment and issues the donation receipt; memberships are offered through Patreon. Your payment is subject to the terms of those services. Donations support the ongoing work of Kumtuks and are voluntary. For questions about a donation, please contact us.
Third-party services and links
The Site embeds videos from YouTube and links to other websites and services, such as social media, CanadaHelps, Patreon and Mailchimp. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability or practices. Your use of them is governed by their own terms.
Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information collected through the Site.
Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The Site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent permitted by law. We do not promise that the Site will always be available or free of errors or harmful components. To the extent permitted by law, Kumtuks and the Global Civic Policy Society are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Site or its content, or from your reliance on it.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last changed. By continuing to use the Site after a change, you accept the updated Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute will be handled by the courts of British Columbia.
